Sealants
______________________________________
We offer teeth sealing as a part of a comprehensive preventative dental care plan for children and adults. A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the biting surface of molars, premolars and any deep grooves (called pits and fissures) of teeth. More than 75% of dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with these conditions are difficult for dental cleaning and are very susceptible to decay.
A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves, creating a smooth surface that is easy to clean. That is why we recommend sealants for children ages 6-16 as well as for adults with tooth surfaces without decay that have deep grooves or depressions. Occasionally, we will recommend sealants for baby teeth if the teeth have deep grooves or depressions and the child is cavity prone.
