Dental Bridges
______________________________________
Dental bridges are often an excellent solution for missing teeth. Bridges are comprised of three parts: an attractive artificial tooth attached to two metal or ceramic crowns, one on either side of the artificial tooth. The dentist cements the crowns to the natural tooth on either side of the gap to anchor the artificial tooth securely in place.
The placement of dental bridges typically requires two visits to our Cape Coral office. The dentist begins both visits by administering a local anesthetic. In the first visit, the dentist slightly reduces the teeth adjacent to the gap to accommodate the dental crowns. He then takes molds of the mouth, which lab technicians use to custom-craft the bridge. When the bridge is ready (usually about one week), the patient returns for his or her second visit. In this visit, the dentist places the dental crowns. Next, he bonds the dental bridge to the crowns. Finally, he assures its fit with the surrounding teeth and bite. With proper maintenance, dental bridges can last for several years.
