Frequently Asked Questions
______________________________________

Do you accept my Dental Insurance?

We will file your claim for you and do everything that we can to be sure that you get the maximum use of your dental insurance. We’ll file your claim electronically, and we will do our best to accurately determine your benefits. We accept most insurance policies, with the exception of HMO’s and Medicaid for adults.

What do I need to bring to my first Appointment?

When you come in to the office as a first-time new patient, we will need a copy of your Dental Insurance card as well as a photo ID. Be sure to bring these with you to your first appointment. You will also need to fill out New-Patient paperwork for your first visit. You can download, print and fill out all the necessary forms prior to your visit HERE.

How often do I need to brush my teeth?

Brush your teeth at least twice daily to avoid the accumulation of food particles and plaque. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small strip of fluoride toothpaste. When you brush your teeth, move the brush in small circular motions to reach food particles that may be under your gum line. Hold the toothbrush at an angle and brush slowly and carefully, covering all areas between teeth and the surface of each tooth. It will take you several minutes to thoroughly brush your teeth.

How often should I floss?

For areas between the teeth that a toothbrush can’t reach, use dental floss to remove food particles and plaque. Dental floss is a thin thread of waxed nylon that is used to reach below the gum line and clean between teeth.

It is very important to floss between your teeth every day. Floss at night to make sure your teeth are clean before you go to bed. When you first begin flossing or you begin to floss more frequently (one daily at night), your gums may bleed a little. Don't worry! this is a very common reaction to the initation of proper, daily flossing habits. If the bleeding does subside within a reasonable period of time or if you experience more bleeding as time goes on, please let a staff member know at your next appointment or call (239) 573-2329.

How is a healthy diet related to my overall health?

Your oral health and overall systemic health are closely connected. Eating healthy foods and maintaining a proper diet are vital to your dental health. Cavities are less likely to occur when you avoid sugary foods and frequent snacking. Sugary drinks and snacks coat your teeth in sugar and promote cavity-causing bacteria. Eat healthy foods and brush your teeth regularly to fight cavities. Drinking water regularly also helps flush food particles from the teeth.

How important are dental checkups?

In addition to your routine of daily brushing, flossing, and maintaining a proper diet, it is important that you visit your dentist every six months for periodic examinations and cleanings. Your dentist or dental hygienist has been professionally trained to thoroughly clean and take care of your teeth in a way that you cannot do on your own. Exams give your dentist a chance to evaluate your dental health and help prevent any serious problems. During the regular cleanings, you can expect your hygenist to clean and polish your teeth and your dentist to examine your teeth for cavities, your gums for periodontal disease and your mouth for signs of oral cancer or other diseases.

Scheduling regular dental check-ups will help you avoid unnecessary dental problems. Call our office today at (239)-573-2329, and let us know when we can schedule your next dental cleaning.

How can I promote my child’s dental health?

We will help your child develop the hygiene habits he or she needs to maintain good oral health. While we will perform thorough and careful exams for your child, we will also take the time to teach him or her how to create and execute proper habits at home, including brushing and flossing. If your child implements these practices into his or her daily life, then they will create the foundational habits that will help prevent disease, decay, and unnecessary pain throughout his or her entire life. Teach your child to keep these habits and to attend regular dental appointments so he or she will benefit from great dental health and confidence in a brilliant, beautiful smile.
